SOLICITOR ACQUITTED

NO CASE TO ANSWER

(By 'vioT(.nh—l'ress Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, February 10.

Without leaving the box a jury acquitted Walter Robert Olliver, a Christchurch solicitor, in the Supreme Court on a charge of negligently driving a motor-car so as to cause the death of Thelma Agnes Bedford. Miss Bedford was riding a bicycle in Wilson's Road, St. Martins, early in the morning of September 30, and Olliver, who was driving a car in the same direction, collided with her. Miss Bedford died in Christchurch Hospital from her injuries.

After hearing a considerable amount of evidence the jury was directed by Mr. Justice Northcroft that there was no case for Olliver to answer and without leaving the box "it returned a verdict of not guilty.

Mr. A. T. Donnelly prosecuted, and Mr. Sim appeared on accused's behalf.
