GRIMMETT'S DAY

AGAINST ENGLAND

COTTON ALSO IMPRESSIVE BRISK ATTACK (I,'nited Tress Association —By Electric Telegrapli—Copyright.) ADELAIDE, January 24. The match between England and South Australia was resumed yesterday in brilliant sunshine. Fishlock broke a bone in his right hand while batting on Friday, and he will be out of the game for several weeks. He did not field on Saturday. Wyatt did not last long. He was beaten by the pace of the ball in Cotton's first over and went out leg-before. He demonstrated that he should be fit to open for England in the fourth Test, Allen played a fine kndck. He was the only one of England's later batsmen to take the offensive against the spin bowlers. The South Australian attack was right on the spot and did not give one run away. Ryan did not get a wicket, but had the batsmen pinned to the crease while Grimmett did the damage. Grimmett was back to the form that made him the terror of batsmen of all countries in past years. The Test team is chosen, but the selectors could do worse than put Grimmett in. Cotton's form was impressive. It will be no surprise if he plays in the Test if McCormick is not fit. SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S START. Bradman caused a surprise by sending Walker, usually a tail-ender, in to open. Walker rose to the occasion and gave a great display against England's fast attack. The bowlers are getting a taste of the easy-paced wicket they are likely to experience in the Test. The wicket was no help, and Ryan and Walker handled them with impunity and raced the clock throughout the partnership. The first 50 was scored in 52 minutes and the second came in 39 minutes. Badcock was right out of luck. He could not get off the devil's number, He seemed to be sighting the ball well,

but snicked a fast one from Voce and Ames took a nice catch. Ryan was lucky with snicks. Later he placed his shots well. • He was at the wickets 171 minutes, and hit eight fours. Bradman, after batting a short time, strained his groin and was given a runner. He went out miking a wild shot off Barnett, the seventh bowler tried. The attendance was 19,682 and the takings £1143, Bradman's drawing power was shown by the fact that hundreds left the ground when he returned to the pavilion. Details: — ENGLAND. First Innings.
