ATHLETICS

INTER-CLUB CONTESTS WELLINGTON AND WANGANUI When last month a team from the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club visited Wanganui to compete at the first of the two meetings held each | year with the Wanganui Club, the | home team established a fairly sub- | stantial lead on points, but Wellington jhad its revenge at the Basin Reserve on Saturday night, when it more than I overtook Wanganui's ler \ winning the contest with a total of 151 points to 147. The meeting, which was held under i electric light, was efficiently run, and there were some excellent performances. An outstanding event was an exhibition cycle race by Marcel Russ, of France, and J. Fitzgerald, of Australia, two professional cyclists who are at present visiting Wellington. C. Robinson, the young Kiwi Club sprinter, had no difficulty in winning 1 the 440 yards. He had too much in reserve for the other runners. As was to be expected, the 880 yards was a closely-fought contest. Ogg and Badland were close together all the way, and at the tape it looked like a dead heat. j T. J. Crowe won the high jump with! a good jump of sft Bin, and B. Mcintosh, of the University Club, followed. Interest in the field events was diminished by the fact that it was very difficult to see them from the bank. THE RESULTS.
