FIGHT ON SHIP
OFFICERS AND CREW MEN 1 GO ON STRIKE (Received January 23, 10 a.m.) CfAPE TOWN, January 22, The refrigerated steamer _ Maimoa, with a cargo for Australia,, is anchored in the bay. The crew is on strike. The Maimoa was about to leave dock when it was found that a sailor was missing. A dozen men refused to sail if their comrade was left behind and rushed the gangway. Officers, supported by loyal sailors, stopped the rush dnd a melee resulted. The objectors were shanghaied. The captain unsuccessfully pleaded with them all night and then signalled for the police. The two ringleaders were sentenced to ten days' hard labour for assaulting officers. The firemen and trimmers subsequently refused duty. The missing sailor has been traced.
