"Gift Afternoon." | A "gift" party, in honour of Miss Flora Sinclair, whose marriage takes place shortly, was given by Mrs. W. Harris at her residence, Kenya Street, Ngaio, when a delightful afternoon was spent. Delicious afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs. Harris and her daughters, who assisted their mother in entertaining the guests. Those present included Mesdames T. Wainwright, L. Lynneberg, C. Worth, L. Swift, R. Cameron, T. Casey, Gordon Harris, Olsen, G. Flaws, Harman, M. Woolcott, and Misses S. Hogg, R. Smyth, J. Letcher, V. Wainwright, and D. and M. Sinclair. Miss Sinclair was the recipient of many beautiful and useful gifts. Successful Party. A pleasant and successful party was held recently at the Empire Hall, Cuba Street, when Mr. and Mrs. Ivin were the guests of honour. Dancing was enjoyed, and items were given by Mr. Outtrim, Mrs. Dowling, and Mr. J. Sutherland. Speeches were made by Mr. Domb, Mr. Stevens, Mr. Bertlesen, sen., Mr. Farrant, sen., Mrs. Denniston Wood, and Mrs. M. Dowling. The decorations were charmingly done by

Mrs. Domb and Miss Stanton. A special table was arranged for the Hed Cross Social Club. There were about 180 guests, all of whom had a most enjoyable time. World-wide Crusade. A farewell to Miss L. M. Byars, World-wide Evangelisation Crusade missionary, designate for Columbia, South America, was held at the Mount Eden Baptist Church, states the "New Zealand Herald." The Rev. A. S. Wilson, chairman of the crusade council, presided, and in a short speech outlined the history of the mission, which was founded by the international cricketer, Mr. C. T. Studd. Fifty candidates for missionary service were recently accepted in one year. Miss Byars and Mr. Arthur Davidson were recently accepted for evangelistic service in Spain. The unsettled state of affairs in that country, however, necessitated a change in programme. Complimentary Reception. The Comtesse de Ville Hautemont, who was in Wellington last year, and of whom Wellingtonians have such pleasant memories, will be guest of honour, wiUi members of the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company, at a reception which will be given by the Pioneer Club next Thursday afternoon. The visitors will provide a musical programme, and it is hoped that as many club members as possible will avail themselves of this opportunity to meet the various members of the company. Visitors Entertained. A number of the wives of Auckland surgeons and doctors spent Wednesday afternoon in entertaining the wives of visiting surgeons, who are attending the conference of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (states the "New Zealand Herald"). The visitors were first taken for a drive through the city and outer suburbs, where, with beautiful weather prevailing, they were delighted with glimpses of Auckland's most attractive views and beauty spots. At the conclusion of the drive they were entertained at afternoon 'tea in the Ellerslie Tea Kiosk, where a small orchestra was in attendance and rendered delightful musical numbers. Answer to Correspondent. Pale yellow or pink are cheerful j colours to tint a wall, specially if the room is not a very sunny one. To clean a greasy floor try caustic soda in very hot water; use a mop and do not touch with hands. It could then be stained and non-skid polish used, and should look much improved. (M.F.)
