I Napier, framed certificate; Samuel Mc- ~ Lernon, aged 25, Gisborrte, letter of i commendation; George Whyte, aged . 35, New Brighton, letter of commendation. I Bray rescued a youth from drowning • in the sea near Napier, and attempted > artificial respiration till a doctor ar- - rived. J McLernan rescued a man from tha 1 sea at Gisbornc when a boat capsized. ' He had a particularly hard struggla • in the surf. Whyte dived into the Avon from * ' moving motor-lorry to rescue a little 1 girl from drowning.
