Work on the defences of the German North Sea islands has been intensified since December, declares the "Manchester Guardian." About 80 heavy guns have been rrtounted at Heligoland, and subterranean aerodromes, arsenals, and petrol depots some hundreds of feet below the surface are now complete. The' new "SS" boats, fast torpedo boats with a crew of four, with two torpedo-tubes, satisfied the naval command. The speed exceeds sixty miles an hour. ' The German anti-aircraft defence appears to be ahead of the rest of the world. Thirty anti-aircraft regiment* are now complete.
