Special forecast for Wellington:—

Strong and squally north-westerly to westerly winds. Weather for the most part fair, but clouding over at times and possibly some light rain. Temperatures moderate to warm.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for moderate to strong north-westerly to westerly winds, gale force being reached at times in exposed positions. Winds will change to the south-west again by tomorrow in the southern portion of the South Island. The weather is expected to be fair for the most part with broken cloud, but squally and at times overcast. Some intermittent rain is probable, in western and southern districts, and it will extend occasionally to scattered parts of eastern districts. Temperatures will be moderate to warm. Yesterday's weather.was fine ana warm, winds being light to moderate in nearly all parts of the Dominion. A deep depression, with an extension to the north-west, was, however, located over the south-western portion of the Tasman Sea. During last night this moved very rapidly in an eastward direction and deepened still further during its progress. This morning the line of lowest pressure crossed the centre of the North Island. As it passed, barometers in the extreme south fell to as low as 28.88 inches, and many places have reported readings below 29 inches. Kain has fallen over most of the South Island and has extended over western districts of the North Island. Farewell Spit reports a fall of 60 points, Arthur s Pass lil points, and Bluff and Puysegur Point 92 points. Squally westerly winds blew last night, and a number of places have reported gales.' Auckland's weather yesterday was fine and warm, with passing cloud ana a moderate south-westerly to westerly breeze.
