OVERCAST WEATHER

SCATTERED RAINS

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate northerly winds, freshening somewhat. Weather cloudy to overcast and warm, with rain at times. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for north-easterly to northerly winds, light to moderate in force but freshening. The weather for the most part will be cloudy to overcast, with mist or fog in many places, and scattered rains will develop in most districts. Temperatures will be warm. The weather during the weekend was for the most part fair to cloudy, and mild to warm temperatures ruled. A few local scattered rains, however, were experienced, more especially in the South Island, and there was a considerable amount of mist or fog on the Canterbury and Otago coasts. Pressure is rather high to the north, while a shallow depression continues to cover the Tasman Sea. There is also a slight depression to the south. Consequently moderate westerly winds have prevailed, but light southerlies have blown at times in the far north and on the east coast of the South Island. Auckland had fine and sunny weather during the weekend, with a light to moderate south-westerly wind. It was cloudy there this morning, however, and the wind was a light easterly. Wellington on both Saturday and Sunday had fair weather, although it was cloudy at times, the hours of bright sunshine being 10.7 and 7.7 on the two days respectively. A northerly breeze has prevailed. It was cloudy in Christchurch early on Saturday, but most of the day was fine with a light south-westerly wind, although a brief shower fell about 8 p.m. The weather on Sunday was dull most of the day with a light southerly wind, and the afternoon was very warm. Since 6 a.m. today, drizzling rain has been falling, the wind being a light north-easterly. In Dunedin on Saturday there was a light southerly breeze and the weather was dull and misty. Sunday was mostly cloudy with a north-easterly breeze, and some light rain, totalling three points, fell there last night. At 9 a.m. today it was foggy, with the wind still in the north-east.
