CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. • Beca use he was driving erratically and hi s car was wobbling from side to side ,of the road Francis Joseph Kerr was followed from Hurunui to Waikari, aj distance of ten miles, by Constable Hook. When he finally stopped at a 'hotel Kerr was arrested and he appeared in the Magistrates Court this morning charged with being intoxicated in charge of the car. Ke/rr was fined £25 and costs, his licence was cancelled and endorsed, and he was declared unfit to hold another for eighteen months. Default was fixed at one month's hard labour by Mr. E. C. Levvey, S.M. Sctaior-Sergeant Calwell said that Constable Hook had been unable to overtake Kerr because the latter's car wrasi wobbling from side to side of the road. Counsel said that Kerr had had five "shandies" but it was not a bad case. "What! Driving on the road so that }yiou can't pass him! Not a bad case? llhink again!" said the Magistrate.

Norman Fryday, aged 28, single, a farmer of Ngaere, appeared before Jus- : tices of the Peace in the Police Court this morning on a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a car on Saturday evening at Eltham. He was convicted and fined £10 and costs land his licence was suspended for six (months. The accused's request for suppression of his name was refused by Bthe Bench, which pointed out that publication was part of the punishment.
