OMINOUS CLOUDS
WAR NOT INEVITABLE ARCHBISHOP'S VIEW (Received January 2, 10.35 a.m.) LONDON, January 1. The Archbishop of Canterbury, in a New Year message, says:— "Ominous clouds arc moving over Europe, yet it would be wrong to yield to forebodings of war, which need not be inevitable if responsible rulers are determined to seek peace. I trust that the Coronation will mean not only the investing of our King with his high office as a trust from God, but also the dedication of the nation to God's service. lam concerned to notice signs of the growth of anti-semitic sentiment in this country, and I trust we shall be spared the shame of encouraging this discreditable prejudice, which has led to cruel persecution in other coun- j tries."
