LADY HOUSTON'S FORTUNE
MAY BE ABOUT £5,000,000
LONDON, December 31. It is revealed from her birth certificate that the late Lady Houston would have been 80 years of age on April 8 next. The news came as a surprise to her friends, who thought she was between. 65 and 70. She was the daughter of a South London warehouseman who removed to Hampstead, where she grew up. She never lost her love for the scene of her childhood, and distributed annually £2000 to South London charities. The Duke of Windsor, when Prince of Wales, visited her at Byron Cottage, Hampstead, where she latterly resided. Her legal advisers are convinced that a will exists, but it has not yet been found. The opinion is expressed that her fortune may be in the neighbourhood of £5,000,000. A week before her death Lady Houston . gave a sum, believed to be £30,000, to the Boy Scouts' Association towards the refitting and upkeep of the Discovery. It was conditional on the gift not being disclosed until after her death.
