MODERATE SCORING
MATCH AT PETONE VISITING SUBURBAN TEAM The scoring was only moderate at the Petone Oval yesterday in the match between the Christchurch City anrlj Suburban Cricket Association and thel Hutt Valley Cricket Association. Nicholls brightened up proceedings with a brisk 40, which included five boundary shots and was the top score of the innings. The most; dashing period of the innings, however, was the last' wicket partnership of Wood and Matthews, who in atiout 20 minutes took' the score from] 100 to 138, both batsmen hitting freefty. A good bowling performance for the visitors was registered by Stokes, a slow rigbt-qander, who took seven wickets for H3 runs in 17.2 overs. He also batted brightly for 27. RAIN INTERFERES
After 40 minutes' play, rain caused the abandonment for the day of the annual match betyvcen the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League and the Wanganui Cricket Association, which was commenced at Cook's Gardens, Wanganui, yesterday. Wanganui won the toss, and bat'ing i first had scored 39 for the loss of one wicket when the rain interfered. It was hoped to conitinue the match today. Details: — WANGANUI. First Innings.
