MARGARET ROSE

ANIMAL-LOVER Princess Margaret Hose has made excellent progress during the past 12 months, and will in due course probably be taller than her elder sister, Princess Elizabeth, states the London "Daily Telegraph." Among the presents the Princess received on her birthday in August was a set of gardening tools given by her sister. These were purchased by Princess Elizabeth on a shopping expedition with the Duchess of York just before "leaving London for Scotland. Princess Margaret has acquired recently her own plot of garden at Royal Lodge, and during her stay at Glamis Castle insisted on being allowed to weed some of the borders and assist in the bedding-out operations. Among the presents chosen for her younger daughter by the Duchess were jig-saw puzzles and booksabout horses. Both Princesses adore horses and ponies, and the Duchess told a saleswoman that the only difficulty was to find enough new books about them for the nursery library. "Black Beauty" is still a first favourite. Always fond of music from her very babyhood, one of Princess Margaret*?; great joys is to stand at her mother's

i knee while the Duchess of York plays ! the piano to her small daughter. The little girl can play herself—she has a remarkable ear for music—and the time is coming when this part of her education is to be taken in hand I seriously. 1 For some months past Princess Margaret has been accompanying her sister, Princess Elizabeth, to her dancing lessons, and enjoys the experience greatly. Lessons were confirmed at first to the most simple form of body, arms, and legs movements to develop a sense of balance and ease of movement.. Now Princess Margaret has passed on to easy dances set to the tunes of nursery rhymes, and the coming winter will probably see her being instructed in the elements of ball-room dancing, an art required for the children's parties. One of Princess Margaret's favourite playmates at the present time is the small Tibetan lion dog which was presented to the Duchess of York some time ago. This attached itself almost immediately to the Princess and follows closely in her wake whenever it gets the opportunity. Not unlike a Yorkshire terrier in appearance, the little girl likes to pick the dog lip and carry it in her arms. Princess Elizabeth is devoted to her smaller sister and there is a deep bond of affection between the two. Princes 0 . Margaret models her movements and her general attitude closely on those of her sister.
