TIRED EYES

BEAUTY ROUTINE

In the summer months the eyes are often-the first to suffer from excessive heat and strain. 'In the beauty. • salons of Mayfair, where eye treatments and eye packs are being given daily, the advice to the busy woman is always to rest her eyer whenever possible, if only for ten minutes a day, lying or sitting completely relaxed In her car, in her bath, or in her bedroom, states the "Daily Telegraph." This rest is more useful if a herbal eye pack is applied over the eyes and kept in place by a bandalette which shuts out the light. The use of herbs for tired eyes has been known to English women for. generations, and there are now packs that can each be used two or three times, after being dipped in hot Water and the excess squeezed out, so that during the suminer>* daily eye pack need not be an impossible luxury. Shrivelled eyelids are one of the first signs of advancing age, but they can be kept at bay. Often they are premature in their arrival, and really due to iVertlredV under-nourished eyes. Massage of the eyelids should be done only, with, the finger-tips of the first or, better still, third . finger, of each hand. There should never be any stretching or pulling of the delicate tissues round the eyes. Rubbing the eyes' is disapproved of by all beauty authorities, and often it is suspected as the cause of loss of eyelashes. Irritation causes adults and children to rub" the * eyes, so a specialist has prepared anointment which has to be painted along, the eyelids as well as along the outer base.of the eyelashes. Another ointment .which can be used in massage when the eyes are sore and the lids slightly inflamed has been specially made from the green herbs. HOME EXERCISE. There Is a quarter of an hour home treatment for eyelids that is taught by a Grafton Street specialist to her clients. This consists in the application of an eye-cream for firming and feeding the eyelids that must not reJnain on longer than ten minutes. It is spread in one gentle sweeping motion from the inner to the outer corners of the eyes on the upper lids only. The eyes are then closed for rest and with the finger tips pointing downwards women are shown how to "comb" the "upper lids with gentle upward strokes. The nerve centres of the eyes are the upper inner corners of the eye sockets, and a soothing home exercise for tired eyea consists in just pressing lightly upon these centres and stroking over the eyebrows to the outer corners of the eyes. Busy women can do one eye exercise at intervals throughout the day between their engagements. They have only to cup the hands, keeping the fingers tightly together to shut out all light, and to hold the hands over the closed eyes for three to five minutes. It has been discovered that one of the best protections for eyes and one of the surest ways towards eye beauty is to have long lashes which keep out dust and shelter the eyes from strain. The regular use night and morning of lotion diluted with water in an eyebath—many lotions used alone are too strong for the eyes—is an incentive to eyelash growing. There are also seve•al creams destined for this purpose.
