RUGBY, December 20.
Large crowds assembled at St. James's Palace and at other points in, Westminster and the City of London. this afternoon when, with picturesque ceremonial, the Proclamation "declar-, ing his Majesty's pleasure touching his Royal Coronation and that of her1 Majesty the Queen, and the solemnity,| thereof," was read.
The officers-of-arms, in their tabards,1 and attended by sergeants-at-arms, first proceeded to the balcony, in Friary j Court, St. James's Palace, where trum- i pets were sounded thrice and the Pro-1 clamation was read by the Garter Priii-, cipal King of Arms. A procession was then formed with an escort of Life' Guards, attended by the JState Trum-> peters and the Kings' of Arms, heralded by the Pursuivants, drove in' Royal carriages to the City of London. The prr-^ssion halted at Charing Cross, where the Proclamation was read by, Lancaster Herald, and on reachingl Temple Bar, where.a temporary barrier: was placed across the street to mark the boundary of the City, Bluemantle Pursuivant advanced between two trumpeters preceded by two of the Life Guards and demanded in ancient • form admission into the City of London. The Lord Mayor, in his State carriage, together with aldermen, the Recorder,' Sheriffs, and other officers of the City, received the Order ia Council containing the Proclamation, and the barrier was removed. The procession then entered the City, and the Proclamation was read for the third time by Norroy King of Arms. Th?, Lord Mayor and other City officers then joined in the procession, which advanced to the Royal Exchange, where for the fourth and last time tha Proclamation was read by Clarenceux King of Arms.
The bands of the Guards regiments were on duty at the four points at which the Coronation was proclaimed*
The text of the Proclamation in the main followed that which was issued last May with respect to the intended Coronation »■ of King Edward Win, except for references to the "Coronation of our dearly beloved consort thl Queen."
