THREATS DENIED
EX-PREMIER OF QUEBEC
MONTREAL, December 19,
The former Premier, Mr. L. A. Taschereau denied making the threats against the Government of Ontario. He blamed a misunderstanding for the situation that has arisen.
A cable published on Saturday stated that the Premier of Ontario, Mr. M. F. Hepburn, had Issued a statement alleging that the former Premier of Quebec, Mr. Taschereau, tried to force the Ontario Government to continue power contracts with four Quebec companies by threats to st<sp the entire export of Ontario and plunge Eastern Ontario in darkness, also to commit sabotage by pulling the plugs in the sluice gates on the Quebec side of the Chats Falls. The development of the threat was thwarted by the purchase of a frequency changer by the Hydro-electric Commission, making all Ontario independent of the Quebec, supply.
