SOME RECENT MEETINGS

Southern Cross Lodge.—Bro. C. Quin, N.G., presided. The visiting committee reported on several sick members. Accounts totalling £63 8s 8d were passed for payment. Four candidates were nominated for membership and a member admitted on transfer from Leith Lodge, Dunedin. Official visits were received from Bro. Dennis, N.G., and officers of Kupe Lodge, Bro. E. W. Harvey and officers of Zealandia Lodge, and the N.G. and members of Pride of Karori Lodge, tha latter lodge presenting the travelling gavel. After the conclusion of essential business, thf> lodge was closed to enable a "500" tournament to be held.

Onslow Lodge.—Bro. Holloway presided over a good attendance. Several medical refunds were passed for payment and a report was received from the committee arranging matters for the Christmas tree function., One candidate was admitted by initiation. An election for three Grand Lodge representatives was held, Bro. W. H. Munro acting as returning officer. Zealandia Lodge.—Bro. R. W. Harvey presided over a fair attendance. One member was reported to be still on the sick list, relative sick pay, together with other accounts, being passed for payment. ■ Bro. W. H. Munro. district returning officer, conducted the election for Grand Lodge representatives. "At the conclusion of business a "baek-to-childhood1' social was held, there being a large attendance. There were some very good costumes, the winners being Mr. and MrsAGeo. Hornig, Bro. C. C. Blakemore, and Mrs. Fifield. Muchappreciated items were contributed by Misses Shirley Hepplestone, Betty Parsons, and Pearl Rasmussen, and Mr. Joe Sinclair. Bro. H. A. Hardham made an efficient M.C. _' Children's Christmas Tree.—The children's annual Christmas tree function of Zealandia Lodge was held in the lodge-room, there being an attendance of nearly eighty children. The first part of the afternoon was spent with games interspersed . with excellent items by children. "Father Chrisfmas" (Bro. H. J. Darkins) presented each child with a toy. from a well-decorated tree, together with sweets and balloons. Afternoon tea was provided and everyone received a piece of the large Christmas cake donated by Bro. A. F. King. MANCHESTER UNITY. Loyal Britannia Lodge.—A wellattended' meeting was presided oyer by Bro. Burman, Noble Grand. Sick visitors' reports were received and payment of sick pay ordered. Notices of the deaths of the-wives,of two members were received and members stood in silence as a mark of respect.' Three candidates were initiated. The District Grand Master, "Bro. K. Cropp, installed the newly-elected officers as follows: —Bro J. Wood, Noble Grand; Bro. E. Moss, Vice Grand; Bro. Edgar, elective secretary; Bro. Treadwell, conductor; Bro. McLean, warden; Bro. Shewan, guardian. Lodge honours were accorded the District Grand Master; and his officers, Bro. Blair, Grand Master for New Zealand; Bro. Langford, trustee of Christchurch lodge, and numerous other visitors. At the conclusion of the meeting a lantern lecture was given by Mr. Lawson, of U.S.A., entitled "Forgotten Empires," and relating to America before Columbus. A vote of thanks was accorded him. ,„ Loyal Newtown Lodge.—Bro. b. Eades acted as presiding officer over a fair attendance. Bro. Stewart, Deputy Grand Master, installed the following officers, Bro. E. W. Guise, district secretary, being conductor:—Noble Grand, Bro Cooke; Vice-Grand, Bro. Newson; I P N.G. Bro. Young; conductor, Bro. Winter. The newly-installed officers were instructed'in their duties by the following district officers:--Bros. Stewart, Williams, Jorgensen, and Guise. Visitors from Sister Wallis Lodge were welcomed. Gyde,, Noble Grand, presided over a large attendance. Accounts and sick pay were passed for. payment. One candidate was initiated while another was proposed for membership. A motion or condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Bro. J. J: Mead. A report was received in. respect to the progress of members on the funds of the lodge The election of officers for the ensuing six months ' resulted as follows:— I P.N.G., Bro: Gyde; Noble Grand, Bro. McLeod; Vice-Grand, Bro. Scott; elective secretary, Bro. Robson; conductor, Bro. Hodgson; lecture Master,; Bro. Cooper; assistant auditor, Bro, R. Farrow. A special meeting was arranged for the purpose of studying the reLoyal Petbne Lodge (Moera Branch). —The District Grand Master, Bro. K. Cropp, and three district officers were present and installed the newly-electea officers as,follows:~^Noble Grand, Bro. Pemberton; Vice-Grand, Bro. Cooper; elective secretary, Brp. Brown; warden. Bro. Milne; guardian, Bro. Corles; IPN\G.; Bro. Wuson; lecture master, Bro Heron. Questions were replied to in respect to arrangements for the dispensing of medicines. Bro. C..0. Jorgensen, member of the district management committee, gave information relative to the subject. Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge.—There was a fair attendance, Sister Joyce Tregurtha presiding. Reports were 'received of visits to other lodges in the district. It was resolved that the next meeting be held in January, the last meeting of the year being cancelled owing to the holidays. Nominations for district officers were received as follows:—District Grand Master, Bro. J L Stewart; Deputy District Grand Master, Sister E. McFarlane; management committee, Sister E. McFarlane and Bro. Jorgensen; examining and relieving officer, Bro. Madeley; Bro Park. Bro. Jorgensen instructed the lodge in regard to several new features in the revised ritual. Lodge ■honours were accorded Sister Boake, of Maryborough Lodge. Sister Forbes was installed into the position _of guardian. A sick report in respect to Sister K. Jupp was received. Loyal Rose of Sharon Lodge (Upper Hutt).—At the last meeting there was a fair attendance. A number of visitors included the district officers. Bro. J L Stewart installed Sister Woodfield into the Noble. Grand's chair and Sister Marriott into that of the ViceGrand. General business being disposed of, the lodge adjourned for harmony. ORDER OF DRUIDS. Melrose Lodge.—P.A. Bro. Crawford presided in the absence of A.D. Bro. Marshall. One candidate was initiated. The balance-sheet was received and adopted. Bro. Smithson announced that there was no need for a ballot box for District President, as only one nomination had been received in No. 2G district Officers for the current term were installed as follows:—A.D., Bro McWilliam; V.A.D., Bro. Wahlers; I G., Bro. J. Clouston; 0.G., Bro. Windsor"' A.D.B.s, Bros. Hudson and Willing- V.A.B.s, Bros. Morris and Ogden; M.C.. Bro. Barritt; organist, Bro. Kuch. Invitations were received to visit the Royal Arch Chapter, Coronation, and Pacific Lodges. A vote of thanks was passed to Bro. Ansell on his retirement as delegate to the Hospital Association and Medical Institute, in which capacity he has served the lodge for many years. SONS OF TEMPERANCE. Advance Division, No. 6.—The quarterly meeting was presided over by Bro. A. Gamon, W.P., there being a good attendance. Reports were given by Bro. F. Hitchings on the U.F.S. Dispensary and' the jubilee committee Bro. Gamon reported on the Medical Institute and Bro. Parsons on the M.F.G. Association and Dominion Council. Bro. Parsons also made the sick reports, stating that Sister Sterling was well on her way to recovery and Bro. Laycock had resumed work. Bro. Westbrooke was officially admitted on clearance from Perseverance Division, Christchurch. Officers elected for the next half-year were:—Bro. Gamon, WP.: Sister R.
