FIRST STORE LAMBS

Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on the Feilding sale held on Friday as under:—

' Medium yardings in all sections came I to hand. In the store sheep section | the entry was comprised principally oi j two-tooth wethers and ewes and alsoj a fair sprinkling of b.f. lambs, the first entry of store lambs in Feilding tins; . year. All clashes of sheep sold freely { at fully up to late rates. The entry j of store lambs met with strong competition, just being medium sortn iti| the wool, these selling up to 17s Gd. Dalgety and Company, Limited,. report that there was a nice entry of fat blackface two-tooths and a medium entry of fat ewes, with an odd pen of fat lambs in the fat sheep section. Competition for prime blackfaces was stronger than usual and prices firmed. Fat lambs sold fairly well, whilst fat ewes held their own. A small entry of store sheep comprised priacipally shorn blackface hoggets and twotooth wethers, with the first line of store lambs of the season, about 450 woolly blackfaces. There was a firm tone about this market with a splendid clearance at prices fully up to our recent markets. The blackface lambs realised 14s 4d and 17s Cd. A failentry of beef cattle was penned, including some nice-quality cows and heifers with a fair sale. An average entry of run cattle came to hand with, ' if anything, better competition. A very small yarding of dairy cattle sold at late rates. SOME VALUES HIGHER, ,:,The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:—This was the last sale at this centre for 1936 and, on that account, the offerings were limited in some departments. There was, however, a medium to good attendance and, with the exception of run cattle, interest was fully maintained and values, in some instances, showed some appreciation on late sale= Js:at..sheepu.filled_.four races, a decided increase over the past few sales. The quality throughout was good, especially relating to wethers, which were in the majority. This class showed an advance of approximately Is 6d to'2s per head on recent values, due. ' no doubt, to butchers being desirous of securing requirements to take them over the holiday period. Ewes, on the other hand, were on a par with the previous week. There were no passings. Store sheeD were in moderate supply only, mediocre for quality and varied in assortment. Keen interest was displayed in "this department throughout, especially for lambs, values for which can, to some" degree, be taken as a basis for operations early in the New Year. Other classes were firm on late rates. Run cattle, of which there were two races, found limited inquiry and passings were frequent. Fat' cows were again forward in large sup-1 ply, with about eaual numbers of sta-1 tion bred and those ex dairy. The quality of the former was good, but passings were noticeable. The market eventually settled down firm on late rates for light to medium weight cattle well finished, irrespective of colour. The New Zealand-Farmers' Co-opera-tive Distributing Co., Ltd., report that quite a small yarding came forward for the last sale of the season. In the fat sheep section fat lambs and wethers sold well, while fat ewes sold at rates about on a par with last sale. In the store sheep section'the first offering of lambs came forward, these selling well. The 2-tooth wethers yardeo. sold at the previous week's prices. In the fat cattle section station cattle sold well, while the dairy fats, which were in over suppy. sold at slightly easier prices. In the store cattle section the market was quiet with few sales resulting. Boner cattle were slightly easier in price.
