BRITISH LOYALTY

TEST DURING CRISIS

CATHOLIC ARCHBISHOP'S

REFERENCE

(Received December 21, 10.45 a.m.)

LONDON, December 20.

The first authoritative pronouncement of the English Catholic attitude towards recent events was made by the Archbishop of Westminster, the Most Rev. A. Hinsley, at Westminster Cathedral.

He said that the crisis over the Monarchy had tested loyalty to God and loyalty to the power, which is* from God. "For there is no other power but from God," he added.

"Even in. this hour of grief at:the departure of a ruler beloved of his people," he said, "we have reason for thankfulness for the loyalty of his subjects. ' They have remained staunchly attached to the Throne while desirous that God's law should prevail. For a soul which naturally is Christian is aware that happiness is in God and in the observance of his commandments."
