HOW ASIA COT ITS NAME
The, oldest continent known to man is Asia; It is Sip^os.ed that there man first made his appearance and later spread into other'parts of the world: Asia is the modern name for this continent and comes from the Sanskrit word Ushas,'which means land of the dawn, a very good name for what was probably the birthplace of the human race.
Prizes are offered for the best entries received in the following sections of the Christmas competitions. All entries must reach "Fairiel," the Fairy Ring, "Evening Post," by Saturday, December 12. Name, age, and address of .competitor must be given with each entry, which should 'be typed or written clearly in ink. '.Drawings must be done in Indian.ink. Senior Story.—For boys and girls from • fourteen to eighteen--years Of age. • Must not exceed • 1000 words in ' length. Christmas, atmosphere not ■ necessary. Junior Story:—For boys and girls under fourteen years. Must not exceed 500 words. Verse:—A prize will be awarded for the best Christmas poem, not to ex- . ceed 20 lines. Age limit, 18 years. Drawing:—Prizes will be awarded for the best black and white sketches received. Age limit, 18 years. Closing date is extended to December 12.
