OBITUARY

MR. JOHN RINGLING

NEW, YORK, December 1. The death has occurred from pneumonia of Mr. John Ringling, famous circus owner, aged 70.

Mr, ,John Ringling was the last surviving brother of the famous family which, beginning in the circus business in 1882, brought the show bearing their name to a size equal to the largest operating. The brothers were August, Otto, Albert, Alfred, Charies, Henry, and John and were remarkable for their ability to direct separate departments of the business. On the death of Bailey they purchased the. Barnum and Bailey "Greatest Show on Earth," but conducted it as a separate institution until in 1919 they combined it with that bearing their own name. The price paid for it was said to be £80,000. In pre-circus days John was one of the singers of the family. He appeared in comic numbers in the minstrel show which the Ringlings used to present in Baraboo, Wisconsin.
