ESPERANTO CONGRESS
EIGHTH IN NEW ZEALAND
The eighth New Zealand Esperanto congress will take place under the auspices of the New Zealand Esperanto Association at Christchurch during the New Year holidays. Arrangements have been completed for the congress to commence on New Year's Eve and to extend over the two following days. The Mayor of Christchurch, Mr. ■J. W. Beanland, will open the congress and also accord a civic welcome to the visitors. The assemblage will include, in addition to local enthusiasts, club representatives, International Association delegates, and individual Esperantists. The official programme will comprise a ceremonious opening, three business .sessions, one of which will be conducted entirely in Esperanto, a lecturetto session (in Esperanto), a concert and social, a sight-seeing excursion, and other social functions.
With headquarters in Wellington, and under the patronage of the Hon. J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., Chancellor of the University of New Zealand, the association concluded its eighth year's operations on November 30. The association is the Dominion parent body of eleven clubs, etc., and possesses a substantial membership drawn from about eighty towns. Last year's congress was held at Wanganui. - '■-■
