For indulging in what would seem, to the foreign reader, mild and harmless fun at the expense of the Nazi regime, the popular periodical "Der Qucrschnitt" has been banned by Dr. Gocbbels, Minister of Propaganda, and an "action is -being -brought against the editor. The offence is a glossary of new definitions of common words, including:—Absurd: Hoping for better times. Character: An obstacle to a career. Serial: The part of a newspaper which is still read. Finance: A cross-word puzzle for the State. Hocuspocus: See politics. Ideals: A toy for grown-up, children. Journali^.i: Tightrope walking between the lines. Optimist: An incurable. Politics: Modern term for black magic. University: Exercise ground for future high officials of State. Dr. Goebbels describes this as a "collection of malicious and pseudo-intellectual, at times even disloyal, aberrations."
A movement is on foot to secure a high-pressure water supply for Manakau.
