FIRE AT CARTERTON
(Special to the "Evet ing Post.") MASTERTON, This Day. Shortly after 6 o'clock last night the Carterton Fire Brigade was called to a fire in. the shop of Mr. A. F. Stubbs, chemist, in the main street. The dispensary in the back part of the shop, to which the fire was confined, i was gutted. The blaze was chiefly in the ceiling and roof of the dispensary, where it started. The fire spread into the back part of the shop of Mr. E. H. Hawker, next door,, but very little damage was done there, good use being made of bucket pumps. Stock in the front part of Mr. Stubbs's shop was damaged by smoke and water. The cause of the outbreak is believed to have, been a defective chimney." Particularly in view of the strong wind that was blowing, the fire brigade made an excellent save. It is understood that both Mr. Stubbs s shop and its contents were, insured. j
