EVENTS AT DUNEDIN

: (By-Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, December 1." The Australian swimming team —W. Fleming,.22o and 110 yards Australian champion, and Arthur O'Connor, high and low board-diving champion of New South Wales—who are touring the South Island under the auspices of the Otago Centre, made their second appearance at Dunedin tonight. The principal event of the evening, a 220 yards invitation "scratch race, which brought Fleming and D.H. Symes, New Zealand 220"yards champion, together, did not prove as interesting as anticipated; as Symes was by no means at his best, and Fleming won as he liked by ten yards in . 2min, 29sec. He could have Bettered this time by a good deal, but eased up over the last twenty yards. Second place was taken by P. E. Mathieson, who beat Symes by a yard. W. J. Jarvis did not compete. .A 50 yards scratch race was won by "W. J. Jaxvis from Symes, with Fleming in third place. The time was 24 3-ssec, 1 2-ssec outside the winner's New Zealand and Australian record.
