TOUR POSSIBLE
AMERICAN ATHLETES
VISIT THIS SEASON
There is a prospect of two American athletes competing in New Zealand this season.. . • The secretary (Mr. H. McCprmick) reported to last night's meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association that that day he had received a cable from the secretary of the New South Wales Amateur Athletic Association stating that Foy Draper and George Mackey, together with a manager, were available for a tour. After consulting the president (Mr. K. W. McVilly) he had cabled a ' reply stating that the N.Z.A.A.A. would co-operate on the tour. ••-■--■• - ; This action was confirmed by the council. The New South Wales secretary described Draper as a sprinter and a member of the American Olympic relay team and Mackey as a field and jump events competitor. The two athletes and the manager were suitable to the New South Wales Association which inquired if they ; would be to the N.Z.A.A.A; for the same dates and on the same terms as the proposed tour, by Japanese athletes which it has been impossible to arrange. The cable added that a reply was required at once and that full details would be discussed later. • Mr. McCormick said that the terms for the proposed tour by Japanese had been acceptable to the council. They were that 'the N.Z.A.AA. should bear half the expenses of bringing the men to Australia and after that half the expenses of the trip to and from New Zealand, the N.Z.A.A.A. to bear the actual expenses of the team in the Dominion and take the profits of the meetings. ■
