RICCARTON COURSE

IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENT

(By Telegraph.) (Special to tha "Evening Post.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club had the race track at Riccarton under consideration at yesterday's meeting. It was decided that the track round the turn approaching the straight should receive immediate attention. As it will not have settled down in time for the Summer Meeting in February the inside rail will be shifted out temporarily on the turn. As a consequence the distance of the races of seven furiongs and upwards in which'this part of the course is used will be increased by.a few yards, which will explain why these . races will be described as about a certain distance in the February programme. The programme for the Summer Meeting was also considered by the committee. The stakes will total £195U, an increase of £400 over last year Every race on the programme has a share in the improved prize-money. The- Hornby Handicap and the Trial Plate are each up £25, five other races are up £50."and the Midsummer Handicap has a rise of £100. Another change is that two hack races, the Halswell Handicap, formerly seven furlongs, and the Post Handicap, formerly nine furlongs, have had their distances transposed, i , .' . . , The C.J.C. will offer no objection to the application of the Tapanui Racing Club to change its race date from Feb-ruary-3 to February 6, the new date, being that on which the Summer Meeting will be held at Riccarton.
