CRICKET PROTEST
RUGBY PARK WICKET
DECISION AND COMMENT
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Developments in the senior cricket protest concerning the state of the pitch at Rugby Park occurred this morning. The competitions committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association informed the captains of the Lancaster Park and Old Collegians teams that the match commenced last Saturday and adjourned after three-quarters of an hour's play must be resumed at Rugby Park next Saturday. Commenting on the decision, I. B. Cromb, captain of the Lancaster Park team, said: "The Lancaster Park eleven will go to Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon, but as far as I am concerned, if the wicket still proves unfit for play we will leave the ground." Similar comment was made by representatives of the Old Collegians Club.
When an Old Collegians batsman was struck on the mouth by a rising ball on Saturday, Cromb led the Lancaster Park team off the field as a protest against the state of the wicket.
