HON J. STOPFOVRD
(deceived December 1, IfXAO a^m.). BRISBANE, Tfris, Day. The death occurred suddenly, at the age of 57 years, of the Minister of Mines, the Hon. J. Stopford, who- had been a member of Parliament for 21 years.
The Hon. James Stopford, !M.IL,A.. was born at Rockhampton, Queensland, in 1878 and educated at the IMount Morgan State School. He was an engine-driver in the employ of tho Mount Morgan Mining Co., but was elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1915. He was a member of the Public Works Commission in 1917 and chairman in 1918 and in 1932 beca/ne Minister of Mines. Previously he" was Home Secretary.
