HUTT VALLEY V.M.C.A.
The iki onthly meeting of the board of directors of the Hutt Valley V M.C.A.i was held recently. Arrangements vi ere reported to be well in hand foil the Christmas camp, which will be fti :ld, through the courtesy of Mr. W. 15. Field, at the mouth of the Waikanao River, from December 28 to January 18. Various speakers said that a pert iod at camp assisted lads to grow in physical strength, intellectual interests, and social and spiritual appreciatiot i, and it was hoped that parents ware planning to send their boys to c&t"np this Christmas. The camp will be under the personal supervision.' of Mr. Edwards, who will be assisted W a number of very keen" leaders. ' .
Mr. Brasts^d (national secretary of the V.M.C.A,) spoke of the fine work being.done fcjy the V.M.C.A. among the men in PublA- Works industrial undertakings, and ithe help being given to those requiri.Q g it. The V.M.C.A. was filling a gap in the lives of these men, and was keenly appreciated by them. All denominations were catered for, and religious* services held; a postal department vwas arranged, a library containing tecthnical books was well patronised, antH social activities were promoted. , , An interestirwj report on work done during the paat month was read by Mr Edwards. 3Ehe attendances this season, he said, ftad exceeded those of previous years. A vote of thati ks to the ladies' auxiliary for valufiible assistance during the past y.gar was passed.
A Shetland j»ony named Dot, of Harby, near Gral itham, has died at the age of 50.
