SOME RECENT MEETINGS

MANCHESTER UNITY ODDFELLOWS.

Loyal Newtown Lodge.—Bro. Eades acted as Noble Grand over a large attendance. A communication was received from the Past Grands' Lodge, advising that the degree 'meeting would be held in January. It-was decided to hold a "500" tournament on quarter night. Bro. Eades was thanked for his report on the Friendly Societies' 'dispensary meeting. Visitors from tha Sister Wallis and Kilbirnie Lodges \ver,e welcomed. At the close of the meeting a table tennis tournament was played between Newtown and Sister Wallis Lodges, Newtown Lodge being the winners. Loyal Eketahuna Lodge.—Bro. 11. E. Gyde presided' over a fair attendance. A maternity claim was passed for payment. Two members were declared off ■the sick funds of the lodge and one was declared on. A letter of recommendation was. granted to a member to-enable him to receive the benefits through Danhevirke Lodge. A social reunion tentatively arranged for a night late in November was postponed owing to Dannevirke members being unable to attend on that date. One friend was proposed for membership. The social committee reported that arrangements v/ere finalised for the Christmas tree function. Nominations for the ensuing term were received. ,i Loyal Antipodean Lodge.—There was a moderate attendance at which Bro. H." Hicks, Noble Grand, presided. It was resolved to hold the usual Christmas tree function. Bro. C. Burnett was.asked to act as sick steward during Bro. E. Leads's absence from Wellington. It was decided to accede to the request of three brothers for grants from their own surplus funds. Bro. Davis, Combination Lodge, was present. Those interested in cricket were asked 1.0. giVe .their names to Bro. T. Nelson with a view to arranging matches. One maternity claim was passed for payment. Sick stewards reported and sick pay for £36 2s was passed. It was decided.to send a letter of condolence to the relatives of the late Brd. J. Meac who died in Hastings. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late brother who had attained a fifty years membership of the lodge. Lodge officers were' elected for the ensuing term as follows:—Noble Grand, Bro. G. Forbes; Vice-Grand, Bro. A. Pillar; elective Secretary, Bro. Wishart; warden, Bro. S. Nelson; guardian, Bro. McClellan; conductor,. Bro. Dighton; pianist, Bvo. Young; auditor, Bro. Barrow; : management committee, Bros. Craddock, Lynneberg, and E. Guise; delegate Medical Institute, Bro. A. Guise; delegate Dispensary Board, Bro. E.; Guise. Members played bowls and cards at the conclusion of the meetSister Wallis Lodge.—The last meeting was presided over by Sister Maud Tregurtha as Noble Grand. There was a good attendance. Sister E. Bell reported on Several sick members. The secretary read an interesting letter from Sister.Minnie Swain, Past Provincial Grand Master of the Watford District, England. A letter was received from the Past Grands' Lodge advising that the degree lecture would-be held in January. t ßro. F. A. Davis, secretary of the Past Grands' Lodge, was present. Matters pertaining to the social activities of• the lodge were referred to. and finality deferred until the new social committee is formed for the purpose of drawing up the 1937 programme. The election of officers for, the ensuing term resulted as follows:—Noble Grand, Sister Joyce Tregurtha; ■Vice-Grand, Sister Culverhouse; elective secretary, Sister Alloway; warden, Sister Megan Champion; guardian, Sister; C. Forbes; conductor, Sister Reynard;, assistant conductor, Sister Dumbleton; pianist, Sister A. Webber; lecture mistress, Sister Agnes Douglas. It was decided to invite the district officers to install the newlyelected officers at next meeting. An invitation, was received from Newtown Lodge to a social evening being held to raise funds for the Christmas tree function.. i GRAND UNITED ODDFELLOWS. 1 Loyal Central Branch.—Sis. Wallace, N..G., presided. There was a large attendance, a pleasing feature being the return of Bro. Hooper, financial secretary, after his recent illness. A cordial welcome was accorded the visitors, including Bro. Palmer, deputy district master, and Bro. and Sis. Norton, of,-Loyal Hyde Branch. Sick and general accounts "were passed for payment and reports were received from Bro. Couper concerning the children's Christmas party.- Bro. Kennedy reported on the tennis tournament which is being arranged by the district sports committee. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs. Martin and family on the death of the late Bro. W. Martin, and as a mark of respect the branch stood in silence for one minute. Table . tennis, badminton, and ;ards/were played at the conclusion. ; 1.0.0. F., N.Z. Southern Cross Lodge.—Bro. C. Quin, N.GI, presided over a good attendance. The sick visitors reported favourably on several members. Accounts ibtalling £30 15s 4d were passed for Payment. A report was received from the jubilee committee stating that arrangements, were in hand for the celearations. ' Invitations to two social iunctions were accepted. It was deeded to institute a bowls ladder'for competition among the ■ lodge teams. Che card captain reported that the iodge team was successful in the game against Pacific Lodge, U.A.0.D., in the U.F.S. .Council "500" tournament. One member was granted a clearance to Auckland. After the conclusion of lodge business a successful dance was leld. Kupe Lodge.—Bro. T. Eaton, N.G., presided over a good attendance. An jflipial visit was received from the jfficers of Zealandia Lodge. One candidate was admitted to membership by nitiation. An invitation from Zealandia Lodge to attend a card evenng was accepted.. Harmony concluded ;he'evening* - . Pride of, Karori Lodge.—Two new nembers were admitted by initiation. 3ro. J,. Miller was installed as secretary by the- D.D.G.M. It was decided ,o invite members of Maraenui Lodge :o a' card evening. Bro. Mathers, D.D.G.M., presented Bro. J. Webster vith a jewel for winning the senior ritual competition. In making . the jresehtatibn, Bro: Mathers stated- that he standard of ritual work had never jeen higher than that produced in the lompeution. Zealandia Lodge.—Bro. R. W. Harvey presided over a large attendance. Visitors present included Bros. F.. J. rones (Grand Chaplain), C. Quin, G. Piaggi, and E. K. Binstead (Southern Lodge), and Bro. W. J. Thompori (Wildey Lodge). It was decided to orward letters of congratulation to 3ros. D. F. Smillie, Past Grand Master, in'd.A. Guy, GrandMaster, on the;r Jeyation to high office in the Grand L.odge of Australasia. It was decided ;ojentertain Victoria Rebekah Lodge nembers at next meeting. The chairnan of the Christmas tree commitee reported that arrangements were veil in hand for the function. After he conclusion of ordinary business an nvjoyable card tournament was held. Lily of the Valley Rebekah Lodge.— ""he following members were installed or the ensuing term: — N.G., Sis. 'eggie; financial secretary, Bro. Peteren; recording secretary, Sis. Hercock; reasurer, Sis. Cuneen; guardian. Sis. .aggers. The D.D.G.M., Bro. Bargh, iresided at.the installation ceremony. in official visit was received with honurs from Star' of Petone, O Kiwi-iti t^bekah Lodges, and from Bellevue lodge. Sis. Grover moved a vote of hanks to the visitors, Bro. Bargh, Sis. Wbertson, Sis. Nairn, and Bro. Mc'Kee replying on behalf of their repective lodges. A nomination as reresentative for Grand Lodge was reejved. The lodge then adjourned for anting and ping-pong. ORDER OF FORESTERS. Court Sir George Grey.—Bro. J. Wilams, C.R., presided over a fair at;ndance. The woodwards reported iat ten of the brethren were at pre;rit on the sick funds. Accounts mounting to £7 13s were passed for ayment. Bro. T. Westwood reported n the business of the" Dispensary loard. A committee was set up in dnnection with the holding of a Jiicheon to celebrate the seventy-fifth riniversary of the court, which would ake place on July 22, 1937.
