"Gift Evening." The Hataitai Methodist Sunday [School gave a very enjoyable "kitchen and gift evening" recently in honour ■of Miss Daisy Bait and Mr. Derek Tayler, who have both been connected ! with the Sunday school for some years. The guests were entertained with musical items and competitions, and a short humorous playette. Mr. W. F. Stock spoke a few words of appreciation on behalf of the Sunday school, and Mr. J. Phillips and Mr. W. Edwards, on behalf of the church and young people | respectively. The guests of honour | were presented with a handsome chiming clock. All present wished them every happiness for the future, the good wishes being eloquently shown by the many beautiful and useful gifts. There was. much interest and amusement at the opening of the parcels. A dainty supper was served. New Social Club. To launch their newly-formed social club, the E.S.U. Younger Circle will hold a dance at the Majestic Cabaret next Thursday. Parties for Bride-elect. One of the much "partied" brideselect in Wellington at present is Miss Joyce Bennett, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Bennett, of Lowry Bay. Hostesses who have arranged parties for Miss Bennett this week are Mrs. Cathy (Island Bay), Mrs. Clifton Johnston (Barnard Street), and Mrs. C. Inkster (Highland Park). Mothers' Helpers. That the Mothers' Helpers are thoroughly worthy oi their name has been recognised by the Hotary Club, as their secretary has sent a cheque for two guineas to the committee, stating that this was "a tribute towards your very worthy organisation." The committee receives many letters of appreciation of the services of the helpers from mothers of families who have experienced their very kind and adequate help. Mrs. C. W. Godfrey presided at the last meeting for the year of the committee, and good wishes were given to the staff, the member^ of which will take their annual and well-earned fortnight's holiday, shortly. The demand for their services is more and. more keen. A rest, from their work is imperative, arid the many who know them and their efficient kindness will wish them not only the "compliments of the season" but the best possible weather and all conditions of enjoyment of the festive season.
