DELIGHTFUL PARTY
WELCOME TO AMERICANS
Weather made no difference to the cheerfulness of a delightful ''fiveo'clock party" given by Mr. G. A. Bucklin, Consul-General to the United States, and Mrs. Bucklin, , yesterday afternoon, when the special guests of honour were Mr. J. Pierrepont Moffat, J Consul-General for the U.S.A. in Ausjtralia. and Mrs. Pierrepont Moffat. j | Looking out of the windows at "Dalgarvan," Hawhiti Terrace, with the drifting rain over the harbour veiling the hills beyond, and the lovely drench- j ed roses and other flowers in the \ charming garden outside, it was de- | lightful to find vases and bowls of beautiful flowers, roses, gladioli, carna- j tions, and many others, decorating the I large drawing-room where the guests asembl&d. Mr. and Mrs. Bucklin received their guests, the latter wearing a model reception frock of blackberry tinted wool-satin, draped and with a touch of lace on the corsage. Delicious refreshments were served" with the I
sherry and cocktails, among the latter ( | being the much-appreciated tomato ones which originating in America have become- so popular here. The gathering was a very representative one of Consular, legal, military, naval, and other citizens; all of whom had much pleasure in meeting the guests of honour, who were kind in their regard of Wellington as they arrived on a beautiful day, and were impressed with the beauty of the harbour and surroundings, quite refusing to be less appreciative on- account of the rather appalling spell of the /past few days. They leave Wellington this evening to continue their tour.
