PLUCKY BOXER
ROUGHT WITH JAW BROKEN
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, November 30. A professional boxing contest held here this evening between the Australian, Alf Blatch, 9.12J, and Den Stirling, 9.125, came to an end at the conclusion of the fourth round, when it was disclosed that the New Zealander for two rounds had been fighting with a broken jaw. Blatch showed himself the cleverest fighter seen in Dunedin. for years, and from the opening gong it could be seen that Stirling was no match for him. In the second round the Australian sent in a driving right to the botjy and straightened his man up with a left to the jaw. This punch apparently did damage, but Stirling fought gamely on for another two rounds, when the referee, after a doctor had examined the New Zeelander's jaw, had no alternative but to stop the contest and award the decision to Blatch. In a preliminary ten-round professional bout J. Reidy (Invercargill), 9.11, beat J. Kelly (Bluff), 9.10, on points.
