There will now be no more racing in the Dominion till the Woodville Meeting on Saturday week. Though he missed the Feilding Meeting, Martara will have the opportunity of a further race before Ellerslie 'at Woodville, where his nomination includes the open handicap on the second day. Shy and Grateful are the only horses from outside the province engaged in the Te Awamutu Cup at the Waipa Meeting this year. Usually the race is well patronised from other parts. According to a southern report, Owls Gl,eam is to do his holiday racing at Waikouaiti and Oamaru, with a trip to the West Coast, for the Reefton Meeting, as a finish. Oriental King's third at longish odds in the novice event at Ashburton last Saturday leads one to recall that he was entered two months ago for the A.R.C. Railway. That was an ambitious entry, but this son of the Chief Ruler horse Leader may yet prove to be a useful sort. Mr. George Gould has placed his seven-year-old gelding Bright Red in work again with J. Shaw, says a Riccarton report. Bright Red is by Shambles from the Thurnham mare Luminant, and it is intended to try him as a jumper. Ilithyia, highweight winner at Ashburton last Saturday, is a four-year-old mare by Iliad from the Paper Money—Paphia mare Par Money, dam also of Tray Bit and Money Raid, and she was bought by the Oamaru trainer J. Ross shortly before having her first race at Kurow in October. The two-year-old colt by Hunting Song—Miss Ainslie, in the stable of W. D. Young at Hastings, has been sold to Mr. J. Harris, Sydney, and he will be shipped to the Commonwealth at an early date. Miss Ainslie is by Fort William, a son of Soult.During the last week Mala has shown signs of soreness while working at Woodville, and H. E. Russell has decided not to go on with his preparation for the Great Northern Derby. Mala will now be treated to a spell, after which he will be prepared for another trip to Australia,
