HUTT V. UNIVERSITY
It did not take Hutt long to dispose of the remaining University batsmen when play was resumed in intermittent drizzling rain on the Hutt Recreation Ground on Saturday, Hutt had compiled 184 in their first innings, and at stumps the previous week University had scored 108 runs at a cost of five wickets. University thus seemed still to be within striking distance of Hutt's total, but a series of Ibw decisions had robbed them of Harpur and Blandford, and now Wilson and Vietmeyer fell by the same means and the back of their batting was broken. Play started shortly before two o'clock, and closed at 2.47 p.m., play being continued only long enough to decide the game on the first innings. Champness and Clark opened the bowling for Hutt, and worried the batsmen considerably, although Tricklebank soon settled down and carried his score to 43 before he was dismissed. Stevens was apparently bowled when his score was 3, but the umpire gave a not-out decision, thinking that the ball came oft" the wicketkeeper's pads. Dean and Stevens were unequal to the task of bringing University's total up to Hutt's figure, and
Dean foil victim to a ball from Clark when his score was 5. Details: — ' , HUTT. First innings 184 UNIVERSITY. First Innings. Harding, c Fowler, b Clark 6 !
