MATCHES PLAYED IN COLD WEATHER

KARORI AND OLD BOYS NOW IN THE LEAD

Cricket under wintry conditions was the lot of lliosc who elected to go on with the game in Wellington on Saturday afternoon. The grounds being available, matches under the Wellington Cricket Association's jurisdiction were declared on, but many of 'he lower grade matches were not continued, the weather being too *ci niiU generally uninviting. Mercantile League, Hutt Valley, and other competitions were postponed. All four senior grade championship matches in the Wellington Cricket Association were continued, and definite decisions were reached on the first innings. Those teams which baited first on the previous Saturday were well situated, and in each case they won on the first innings, the "fivepointers" going to Hutt, Karori, Institute, and Wellington College Old Boys. The championship table took a decided change, Karori and Old Boys moving up to first place. Not many batsmen went far on Saturday, though there were numerous useful scores. At Kilbirnie several of the home balsmen did well, notably Ward, Parsloe, Wilson, and Ashendcn. Among the bowlers to return good figures were King (Karori), Champness (Hutt), and Montgomery (Institute).

RESULTS AT A GLANCE. Hutt (184) won on the first innings from University (167). Karori (272) won on the first innings from Midland (206). Institute (322) won on the first innings from Wellington (166). Wellington College Old Boys (379) won on the first innings from Kilbirnie (286).
