MISS HELEN BECKETT

There passed away this morning, after a brief illness. Miss Helen Beckett, well known in - the Island Bay, Berhampore, and Newtown districts, where her duties as visiting Plunket nurse brought her into close touch with the home lives, of the residents of these districts. After qualifying at Wellington General Hospital, and Alexander Hospital, Miss Beckett qualified as a Plunket nurse, and joined the staff of the Wellington branch of the Plunket Society in 1930, since when she has been continuously, in the service of the society. Young and enthusiastic, and with a quiet spirit of service, Miss Beckett gave herself wholeheartedly to the work from the first, without limit and without consideration of self, identifying herself with the lives of those who came to her for advice and help. She was as well loved by all her fellowworkers v as by the mothers of the districts, and the beauty and precision of her work in all details will be a lasting memorial. The committee of the Wellington branch and her fellow-workers will greatly miss her loyalty and quiet cooperation, and desire to pay a tribute to a short life unselfishly spent in service for others. The funeral' service will be held on Wednesday, and the Plunket Rooms will be closed that day.
