WELLINGTON SYNOD

This morning's session of the annual Synod of the Wellington ■ district of the Methodist Church was prefaced by Holy Communion in Wesley Church, Taranaki Street, conducted by the Bey. E. P. Blamires. When the business of the representative session was introduced, the following were appointed the Synod staff:— Secretary, Rev. A. M. Costain; assistant secretary, Rev. A. R. Witheford; correspondence secretary, Rev. J. F. Martin; Press secretaries, Revs. J. R. Nelson and J. S. Willoughby. Financial statistics of the district were reported upon by the Synod secretary, showing an improvement during the year in the general financial position of the circuits. The Johnsonville-Ngaio circuit is recommended to receive a married probationer, as second agent, and Kuripuni, Masterton, a single probationer, if available. 81-CENTENARY OF METHODISM. Proposals for the fitting observance, in 1938, of the bi-centenary of British Methodism were brought before the Synod. These gave rise to a' discussion in which several ministers and laymen, with one lady representative, took part, and which stressed the need for' ' a deepening of the spiritual experience of church people for honest thinking and speaking upon modern questions related to Christian thought, and for a purpose to relate the message of the Church more effectively to its youth needs.
