CHRISTMAS MAILS

OVERSEAS POSTINGS

A BIG INCREASE

More letters and more parcels have been posted to England from New Zealand this year in time to arrive for Christmas than was the case last year. The three mails which have already taken the bulk oi! the Christmas postings have carried between them 15,7581b of letters and 95,2451b of other articles, compared with 13,4051b of letters and 66,1481b of other articles last year. It is obvious that New Zealanders, with returning prosperity, are bent on sharing it with friends and relatives overseas. The details of the mails carried by the three vessels which have recently left these shores with Christmas postings on board are as follows:— Other Letters, articles. 4 n>. ib. Niagara, Nov. 10 5.200 12.300 Monterey, Nov. 14 .... 5;794 4,500 Wairangi, Nov. 16 1,764 78,44 a Total 15,758 95,245 The Wairangi was the boat taking the illustrated Christmas papers, and her 78,4451b of "other articles" includes these. The corresponding mail last year took only 45,7431b. The mail by the Rangitiki leaves on Friday next and is due to reach London on Christmas Eve. Extensive late postings have been made for this mail also.
