MARKET STRONG

.LONDON, November 17. The last of the series of London wool sales for 1936 commenced with an offering of 8220 bales, including 3579 bales of New Zealand wools, and 7806 bales were sold. The offering was a good selection, and it met with a strong competition, the Home trade and the Continent being the chief buyers. - Prices generally ruled at 10 to 20 per cent, dearer than at the Closing rates- of the last series. New Zealand slipe halfbred lambs "Gear" made 20-Jd highest and 19Jd average. .■■■■■:' Dalgety and Company, Limited; Lorn don, November 17, ■ report:—Salea opened. Large attendance of buyers. Animated and general competition. Average selection. As compared. with closing rates of September series, Greasy merinos, lid to 2d higher; scoured merinos and scoured halfbreds, 2d to 2£d higher. The above are only nominal as there were practically na New Zealands offered. -Greasy crossbreds and scoured crossbreds, 2Jd to 3d higher; fine slipes, 2d to 2Jd higher; medium and coarse slipes, 2£d to 3d higher. The New Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-> tive Distributing Co. is advised as follows, London, November 17: —Wool sales opened today with large attendance and good competition. Prices, compared with close of last series in! September, are as follows:—Greasy] merino, 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, upj scoured merino, 7£ perjcent. to 10 pel', cent.; crossbreds, 20 per cent, to 23 per cent; slipes, 15 per cent, to 20 pei.l cent. —all up. The Bank of Australasia has receive^ the following cable. dated London, November 17, from Messrs. Balme and] Thomas, woolbrokers, today:—"London colonial wool sales: Market strong; merinos, 10 per cent, to 15 per cent^ dearer; greasy crossbreds, 25 per cent< dearer; scoured crossbreds, slipedl crossbreds, 15 to 20 per cent, dearer,, compared with closing rates. of lastf series. The Bank of New South Wales i 3 in receipt of the following cable message from its London office, dated No-« vember 17:—London wool sales: Keenj general competition. Merinos and fine crossbreds 15 per cent., medium ana coarse 20 per cent, to 25 per cent., slipes 15 per cent, to 20 per cent, dearer. Average or estimated prices of New Zealand greasy fleece ordinary topmaking wools:—Merino, 60-64, Is 3d per -lb;, fine half-bred, 56-58, Is• 3Jd; half-bred, 50-56, Is 2id; three-quarter-bred; 48-50, Is OSd: fine crossbred. 46-48,- Is U*a, medium crossbred, 44-46, Is; crossbred, 40-44, Is. . ■ .
