Sir Ipdward Harding, Permanent Under-Secretary for Dominion Affairs, returned to Wellington with Lady Harding by the Maori this morning.

Paying a tribute to the work of Mr. D. J. McGowan at the annual meeting of the Wellington Show Association last night, the chairman (Mr. R. H. Nimmo) weJcorhed him back after hia recent illness. ' ■

A motion of sympathy' with Mr. H. W. Tolan in the loss of his son.was carried in the customary manner at the annualr meeting of the Wellington Show Association last night. . .

Dr. J. B. McMiken, of Hamilton, has been appointed assistant medical officer at the Otaki Sanatorium by the Palmerston Hospital Board. ■ ••■■■■

James Ames, an * accountant with 40 years' service, and Forbes Johnston, chief ■ clerk ■of ■ the. rates office, with 38 years' service, : both senior officers of the City Treasurer's department, will retire on superannuation at the end of next month. Mr. Ames will be.'succeeded by Mr. A..W. Milburn, and Mr. Johnston by Mr.S. M. Youmans. . ' '
