GOLF CLUB'S REQUEST
The Shandon Golf Club made a request to the monthly^ meeting of the Hutt River Board' yesterday for the extension of it A lease of a portion of GearWlsland for a further five years from 1940— the date of the expiry of the present lease. Mr. F. J. Jones moved that the lease be extended subject to a review of the rent to be charged. It was finally decided to leave the matter over until a full meeting of the board. . , , It. was decided to request the abatement of an alleged nuisance caused by the discharge of dust from a flock mill into the Waiwhetu Stream. The board's engineer, Mr. H. Sladden, reported that oil was being discharged into the Waiwhetu Stream from a stormwater drain from the railway workshops. Among other objectionable features it was killing the grass on the edge of the stream.' It was decided to request the superintendent of the workshops to take measures to prevent the oil from entering the drain. The treasurer, Mr. A. J. Gearing, oresented a statement of the board's finances for the period of the past seven months which showed that, compared with last year, the receipts had increased by £500 and the expenditure had decreased by a like amount.'
