CLUB NOTES

WELLINGTON

The Wellington Club will be very strong this year and will be entering two senior teams instead of one, in both the men's and the women's divisions of the inter-club competitions. The club will have the services of Miss D. Nicholls and Miss M. Everton, who have transferred from the Brougham Hill Club. Miss Nicholls should be a tower of strength to the ladies' senior team. Miss M. Whisker has transferred to Wellington from Newtown, and Miss M. Sinclair from the Wellesley Club. Max Ferkins is back from Hastings and Marchant has transferred from University. Roussell is improving his service and will be a strong force in interclub matches. Other players of last year will be available with the exception of Coombe, who will be absent for ab6ut a month before Christmas in Australia, competing in the New South, Wales championships. Moore has been transferred to Auckland. It is understood that in a ladder match at the Wellington Club this week Miss F. Fernie defeated Miss D. Nicholls, 9-1. NEWTOWW. Newtown Club will be stronger in the men's divisions but weaker in the women's section by reason of the loss of Misses Whisker and Williams. N. Edwards, who is No. 2 player in the Hutt Valley ranking, will be playing for Newtown, and C. Macarthur, who has returned from England, will also be playing for the club. J. Neale has transferred from Auckland, and will also be a Newtown Club player. Others again available this year are Dyer, Lyons, Scotland, and Joblen. THORNDON. Thorndon will probably be at approximately the same strength as last year. N. Smith will be entering permanent doubles combination nexti week. Mrs. Turnbull (nee Miss Margaret Whyte) and Mrs. Whyte (nee Miss Sheila Todd) will also be playing at Thorndon this year. UNIVERSITY. The University Club will be stronger by the acquisition of Morrison, but the club has lost Marchant to Wellington. McCarthy will be leaving for Hawera at the end of the year. R. McL. Ferkins, and it is hoped, Gosnell will be the backbone of the men's interrdub team. A special endeavour is Being made by the University Club to obtain the'support of students attending the university, to urge upon them the necessiy of supporting their college, by playing for it. As far as the University Club is concerned, the importance of students, playing for that college is increased by the fact that eligibility to represent Victoria College in the interUniversity tournament is conditioned by support of the college in ihter-club contests. BROUGHAM HILL. The Brougham Hill Club is ' weaker this year by the loss of several of its best players, particularly in the women's division. L. France is not available for inter-club play The club's No. 1 player in men's inter-club contests will be A. Richards. SEATOUN. There is a possibility that D. G. France will be playing for the Seatoun Club this year. If he plays, with Bedford, the club should do well, but if he is not available, it is very probable that Seatoun will not enter a senior team.
