ARREST AFTER EIGHT YEARS
PROBATION GRANTED
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, October 7. Eight years after he had absconded from bail at Christchurch, William Joseph Fox, known in Taranaki as John Baden Welsh, was arrested at Whangamomona early this week. He appeared in court at New Plymouth today to answer the original charge that at Chris Lchurch on February 2, 1928, he stole a trotting sulky and harness from Samuel Bennett. Fox then called himself John Blake Keenan. After his release on bail Fox disappeared. He visited Australia, but returned to New Zealand and for some years has been managing a farm at Whangamomona. His employer spoke highly' of him and offered to' retain his services. He was married with three children. Counsel said there was a possibility of a sound defence to the charge, but in view of his circumstances Fox threw himself on the mercy of the Court. The Court granted probation for twelve months.
