WAGES SETTLED
TIMBER WORKERS AND GOLD MINERS

GREYMOUTH, September 23,
The clerk of awards, Mr. Frank Bird, successfully deputised for the Commissioner in conciliation council today, when a complete agreement was reached in both the timber industry and the dredging and alluvial goldmining industry. Tributes were paid to Mr. Bird by the spokesmen of all the parties.
The timber workers' wages and conditions have been substantially restored to the 1931 levels, and the dredge and alluvial-miners' wages have been increased.
Following are the daily rates:— Engineers, carpenters, electricians, welders, amalgamators, engine drivers, and bush foremen, £1; winchmen. 19s: panners-off, motormen, sniggers, bush winchmen, and tractor drivers, 18s; others, 17s. A special proviso makes the minimum wage of alluvial miners 16s.
