MENZIES MYSTERY

FALL FROM WINDOW

"WHOLE MATTER HELD UP"

<Received September 23, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 22. Mystery still surrounds the accident to Flight-Lieutenant G. L. Menzies at North Weald air field on August 24. Although it was stated that an inquiry would be held a lew days later, nothing has been heard since. All that the Air Ministry will say is "The whole matter is held up. Presumably Mr. Menzies is not well enough to give evidence. We have not had a report yet from the Air Force station." A London cable on August 24 stated that the police were inquiring into the mystery of injuries received by FlightLieutenant G. L. Menzies, an R.A.F. officer from Sydney, who was found unconscious early that morning under a dormitory window at North Weald air field, Epping, his pyjamas being stained with blood. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition. Doctors were baffled on account of the wounds. The Air Ministry was silent, and stated that an official inquiry would be held. Captain F. W. Follett stated that on two occasions when he shared a room with Mr. Menzies he awakened in the middle of the night to find Menzies walking in his sleep, and he suggested that Menzies was walking in his sleep when he fell from the dormitory window. _^^______^_
