HUTT ROAD LIMITS
THIRTY TO BOUNDARY
THE PRESENT POSITION
The Automobile Association (Wellington) reports that there is still evidently some confusion with regard to the speeds on the Hutt Road. The position is that between the end of Tinakori Road and Ngahauranga there is a speed limit of 30 miles per hour in accordance with the recent amendment of the Motor Vehicles Act, though this is still subject to a reduction to 20 miles per hour when passing through Kaiwarra and Ngahauranga, in accordance with the : bylaws of the City and Suburban Highways Act. Beyond Ngahauranga there is no set limit, and the position is governed by the Motor Vehicles Act and its regulations, and in the case of any motorist exceeding a speed limit of 35 miles per hour the onus of proof of safe driving is on the motorist. "In any case bn whatever part of this or any other road on which a vehicle is being operated," continues the report, "the- driver should have foremost in mind that important general regulation which states that' no person shall drive any motor vehicle at such a speed that the vehicle cannot be pulled to a standstill within half of the length of clear road which is visible to the driver immediately in front of his vehicle." The above,, said the Town Clerk (Mr. E. P. Norman) when the report was referred to him, was the present position. '
