WOOL MARKET
JAPAN PAYS HIGH PRICES
(By, Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received September 21,11.35 a.m.) ' LONDON, September 20. The wool trade is pleased at the favourable opening of the London sales, especially as some good buying has been done on German account. France is also operating, but Russia and Italy, so far, are out of the market. Opening values are maintained. While the sales have not resulted in an advance in Bradford they have provided a tonic. Buyers, however, are inclined to wait and see whether values in the Australian sales remain firm, despite the absence of Japan as a buyer. At present Japan is paying from one penny to twopence per lb higher for South African wool than any other competitor can afford to pay. It remains to be seen for how long Japan will be able to continue this uneconomic buying. If Cape wools continue at a high level some Bradford users may have j to switch over to Australian.
